Over 10 million children have received a dictionary thanks to the generosity of The Dictionary Project and its sponsors. The goal of this non-profit is to promote literacy and help students become good writers, active readers, and creative thinkers. The fine folks at The Dictionary Project and I have teamed up countless times over the years on a variety of work, all designed to appeal to their broad range of viewers, from…
With little more than an empty room and a handful of wallpaper samples, Shine called looking for an identity. Their logomark reflects the chic vibe of Charleston’s newest hot spot and takes its direction from the array of vintage chandeliers scattered across the restaurant’s ceiling, while additional work, including menus, advertising, and promotional materials, incorporates the elegant mishmash of contrasting shapes, textures, and patterns which combine to form Shine’s unique atmosphere.
Named one of The Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events, Charleston Fashion Week is a five-night celebration of the city’s flourishing retail and design community, featuring runway shows from local shops & designers, bumpin’ after-parties, and the debut of the Southeast’s top emerging talent. For the 2009 event I overhauled CFW’s identity and unified their look, creating a cohesive campaign with work spanning print, web, apparel, and outdoor.
With more than 20 years of experience under their belts, Charleston Stump Stompers specializes in all areas of tree care and has built a great reputation on their customer service. They needed a new identity which would reflect their combination of experience, professionalism, and friendliness, so we created a look that’s rugged and trustworthy, yet approachable. My friend George was diagnosed with cancer and ended up falling on tough financial times. In an effort to help chip away at medical bills and fight his disease, friends and coworkers banded together to throw an oyster roast in George’s honor. Local businesses lent a hand by donating items for a silent auction, and all proceeds from the auction, t-shirt sales, and admission tickets were given to George.

During my former life as an illustrator & designer for Charleston’s daily newspaper, The Post and Courier, one of my cherished weekly responsibilities was to illustrate and design the cover of “Preview,” the paper’s entertainment tabloid. I’d have to check the archives to be certain, but I imagine I put together 200-300 covers while under the P&C’s roof.
