The Occupy Poster Project was born out of a love for print. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to curate and create a body of screenprinted posters that could be utilized by the people currently protesting. We got in touch with some of our favorite designers and gave them only a few stipulations: Design whatever you’d like, make it 20″ x 30″, and 1 color. The project is ongoing as we continue to get in touch with designers to contribute, and we are currently shipping these prints out to organizations all over the world. 25% of all sales on this site will be donated to the Occupy Wall Street Organization.

For more on the project or to purchase prints, visit occupyposterproject.com.

First off, please forgive the obnoxious length of this post. It’s been a rockin’ few months. Lots of exciting news to share, but I’ve been too busy to keep up with posting any of it. As the pile has grown, the task of presenting it all has become more and more daunting. So now, rather than hitting you with twenty annoying mini-posts, I figured I’d bazooka you with a single (but perhaps still equally annoying) news mega-post…

1 — The misses and I are both beyond pumped to see our wedding invitation suite included in this year’s Communication Arts Design Annual. A high enough honor as it is, but it’s doubly rewarding to have the inclusion be for something so personal.

2 — Also excited to have several logomarks featured in a couple new Rockport publications. Congratulations to United Infrastructure Group for the inclusion in LogoLounge’s Master Library – Shapes & Symbols, and congratulations to GreenlitScripts, Charleston Naturally, Charleston Peace One Day, and Overboard for being selected for Letterhead & Logo Design 12. Both books bring the ruckus – an amazing array of talent to be in the company of.

3 — Thanks to Charleston Magazine and writer Lauren Brooks Johnson for the Graphic USA shout…

“To truly sense the underground vibe of a city, you must eat, drink, and do as the hip locals eat, drink, and do. So who better to guide you through the country’s urban centers than the hippest of the crew? The publishers of this collection asked 25 top graphic designers to disclose their hometowns’ best places to indulge, imbibe, and pique your interest. Its contributors infuse the artsy book with personality, both through their first-person entries and their fresh designs for each chapter. Former Charleston staffer Jay Fletcher takes readers on a jaunt through Holy City faves: Trattoria Lucca, Out of Hand, Pecha Kucha, and Redux, to name a few.”

(Also really cool to be in the same Cmag issue as some other Charleston creative powerhouse pals, like Nathan Durfee, Robert Prioleau, Michael Moran, and the gals over at Stitch.)

4 — I’ve been continuously pumped to have work featured on several of my favorite design blogs over the past couple months. Thanks to Fabien Barrel for the huge shout on Graphic Exchange, Brand New for the Celadon inclusion, Communication Arts for the Celadon Exhibit, Print Magazine for naming an oldie but goodie as their “Image of the Day,” and Design Work Life for the hat trick – ONE TWO THREE. Also honored to show up on fantastical design duo Eight Hour Day’s blog, “The Best Thing I Saw Today,” and to see the Poogan’s Porch website snag a Best Design award. To finish it up, the wifey has been beaming over her cameo on 100 Layer Cake.

5 — Always a fun break from reality to be your own client on a project. I was pumped to be asked to contribute my take on an album cover for this year’s Thirty Three and a Third Art Show. Some pretty awesome stuff from some pretty talented designers this year, so be sure to take the full gallery for a spin.

6 — I’ve succumbed to the peer pressure. I now be Tweetin’ and Dribbblin’. Follow along to keep up with the latest.

7 — Finally got around to redoing my 4-year-old business card design. The new jam is letterpress on one side, rubber stamp on the other, delicious throughout.

8 — Last, but without a doubt not least – the coolest news of all. Over 1,500 For the Love of Andrea shirts have been sold, and the entire effort (shirt sales, fund raising events, etc.) has currently raised over $75,000 with no signs of slowing. To top it all off, Andrea’s getting better by the day. Fipping unreal. It’s amazing to play even a tiny role in such an unbelievably good cause. To get the latest on Andrea’s story or to buy a shirt, head over to fortheloveofandrea.com.

More information on Andrea’s story can be found at fortheloveofandrea.com – a site set up by friends and family to provide updates on her condition and coordinate support efforts – along with a rapidly growing Facebook community.

Shortly after the accident, a mutual friend in Chicago got in touch looking for some tips on screen printing t-shirts, and a quick five inspirational minutes later I was on board to help craft something a little more customized.

The shirts are printed on “Black Heather” American Apparel 50/50 tees, and were generously turned around quickly by King Screen in Atlanta. Now available for purchase and shipping here, with all proceeds going directly to Andrea and her family.

Just finished a fun redesign for a Charleston staple…

Tucked away on charming Queen Street, Poogan’s Porch is one of Charleston’s oldest independent culinary establishments, with a fresh approach to Lowcountry cuisine. Recognized by Martha Stewart Living, Wine Spectator and The Travel Channel, this beautifully restored Victorian house is the perfect southern spot for lunch, dinner, or weekend brunch. Since opening in 1976, Poogan’s Porch has been a favorite of well-known celebrities, politicians, tourists and locals alike who rave about this Southern institution. Whether it’s a warm homemade buttermilk biscuit and sausage gravy for brunch, a bowl of she-crab soup for lunch, or our signature buttermilk fried chicken for dinner, your meal at Poogan’s will be unforgettable.

The new look needed to pay homage to the restaurant’s well-known and beloved past, but also offer a fresh, more sophisticated and modernized nod to its future. We began with the logo and basic identity, then moved into signage, menus, ads, and wrapped up last week with the launch of Poogan’s new website.

Lots of local talent involved in this project…

Jenny Badman nailed the tone with some great copy. Limelight Sign Co. didn’t flinch when asked if we could build a sign out of floorboards. (Not only did they do it, but they used wood reclaimed from the restaurant itself.) Paul & Jason hooked us up with tasty photography. And Dwarf Dog Chuck destroyed the website development.

In a nutshell, Visualive is a network of HDTVs located in businesses and public spaces around Charleston, all connected to a central interface – the Visualive.tv website. Think of it as an array of indoor digital billboards, accessible to anybody, to share anything. Users submit content ranging from personal shout-outs to advertisements to event countdowns, all to be displayed when & where they want, on the screens of their choosing.

The whole thing is so simple it’s genius. It’s green, it’s hassle-free, and it’s immediate. Look for these dudes to take over.

Some cool stuff coming down the pipe, but for now we’ve got a new logo and a slew of t-shirts hot off the presses (or out from under the screens, as is more the case), just in time for the summertime crowds. All are printed on American Apparel, and we’ve even got some GROM shirts for the lil’ up-and-coming wave riders. Stay tuned…

A couple months ago I got hitched. Aside from celebrating the beginning of a lifelong adventure with my best friend (I’d be remiss to not mention the obvious), the occasion also gave me the rare chance to be my own client. Much to my <del>fiance’s</del> wife’s credit, she handed over full creative control of our invitations, saying simply “I’m sure I’ll love whatever you come up with.”

As much as it might have been fun to use a bunch of blackletter typefaces and neon inks, I figured it’d be best to reign it in and create something that felt like a merger of both our personalities. The end result takes that idea literally by sandwiching simple elements & textures which represent the two of us as individuals to create a finished package that’s distinctly “us.” That’s my design mumbo-jumbo explanation, anyway. Really, I just wanted to put her in a cameo and myself in a plaid shirt, and somehow print it on actual wood.

A huge shout to Virginia over at Sideshow Press for helping suss out the printing, especially the main invitation piece – letterpressed cherry veneer duplexed with Crane Lettra off-white. So rad. That chica knows her stuff.

Figured I’d keep the ball rolling with groomsman’s gifts, and designed them each a logo to be etched onto a flask. I won’t bother trying to explain any of them, but each icon is based on an experience we shared together. $500 to the first person* who can correctly guess the story behind all six.

*who isn’t named Kyle, Bryce, Drue, Jonathan, Justin, or Sharpie.
