My friend George was diagnosed with cancer and ended up falling on tough financial times. In an effort to help chip away at medical bills and fight his disease, friends and coworkers banded together to throw an oyster roast in George’s honor. Local businesses lent a hand by donating items for a silent auction, and all proceeds from the auction, t-shirt sales, and admission tickets were given to George.

The Society for News Design is an organization with more than 2,600 members in the United States, Canada, and more than 50 other countries. An international forum and resource for all interested in news design, SND works to recognize excellence and strengthen visual journalism. I’d have to check the archives to be certain, but I imagine I put together 200-300 covers while under the P&C’s roof.

In certain circumstances, us creative types are used to being called on by friends to donate our services. In this particular instance, we’ll refer to my buddy as “Green Bird.”
Good friend, rockin’ chef, and all-around-gem-of-a-guy Donnie Bulliard has been gardening since he could walk and Cajun cooking runs in his blood. Always the consummate entertainer, he started the Cajun Kitchen as a venue to host cooking demonstrations, during which he indulges groups of hungry visitors with his cuisine and captivates them with his charm.
A celebration of all things nautical, Charleston Harbor Fest lets guests tour an armada of tall ships, take a sailing lesson, or enjoy the scenic waterfront with a beverage in hand.
