I was excited to be asked by printing pals The Half and Half to contribute to the Occupy Poster Project, and am even more excited to see the effort has enlisted some pretty serious help – James Victore, Art Chantry, and recent ADC Young Gun Dan Cassaro, to name a few of the occupiers…
The Occupy Poster Project was born out of a love for print. This seemed like the perfect opportunity

First off, please forgive the obnoxious length of this post. It’s been a rockin’ few months. Lots of exciting news to share, but I’ve been too busy to keep up with posting any of it. As the pile has grown, the task of presenting it all has become more and more daunting. So now, rather than hitting you with twenty annoying mini-posts, I figured I’d bazooka you with a single (but perhaps still equally annoying)…
Andrea Voss Vellinga was critically injured in the stage collapse that took place at the Indiana State Fair on August 13, 2011 and now lies in a hospital bed fighting for her life. More information on Andrea’s story can be found at fortheloveofandrea.com – a site set up by friends and family to provide updates on her condition and coordinate support efforts – along with a rapidly growing Facebook community.

Just finished a fun redesign for a Charleston staple…
Tucked away on charming Queen Street, Poogan’s Porch is one of Charleston’s oldest independent culinary establishments, with a fresh approach to Lowcountry cuisine. Recognized by Martha Stewart Living, Wine Spectator and The Travel Channel, this beautifully restored Victorian house is the perfect southern spot for lunch, dinner, or weekend brunch. Since opening in 1976, Poogan’s Porch has been a favorite of well-known celebrities, politicians, tourists and locals

As the largest full-time performing arts organization in South Carolina, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra is a central component in the rich cultural foundation of the region. The CSO attracts an audience of over 100,000 people annually and has been a partner in weaving the cultural fabric of the City of Charleston since 1936.
Every now and then you get approached by a new client with a business idea so good, all you can think is “why hasn’t this been done already?” Such was the case when the fellas at Visualive got in touch looking for an identity. In a nutshell, Visualive is a network of HDTVs located in businesses and public spaces around Charleston, all connected to a central interface – the Visualive.tv website. Think…
As somebody who surfs every chance he can get (when Charleston manages to get a couple waves larger than rowboat wake), I was stoked to team up with Folly Beach’s Ocean Surf Shop on a rebrand.
A unique boutique for the board-riding super-freak, Ocean Surf Shop has all of the beach toys, gear and expert advice you’ll need to get on to the beach and into the waves.
Some cool stuff coming…
A couple months ago I got hitched. Aside from celebrating the beginning of a lifelong adventure with my best friend (I’d be remiss to not mention the obvious), the occasion also gave me the rare chance to be my own client. Much to my fiance’s wife’s credit, she handed over full creative control of our invitations, saying simply “I’m sure I’ll love whatever you come up with.”
As much as it might have been fun to…
Charleston’s creative class showed up in realtree, orange, and antlers last Friday for the 2011 AAF Charleston ADDYs at the Charleston Rifle Club. When the bourbon ran dry and the gun smoke cleared, JFD proudly carried home six awards – four gold, a silver, and a bronze. For a better look at this year’s winners…

Was excited to get a copy of LogoLounge 6 the other day and see JFD work not only inside the book, but on the cover as well. Thanks to LogoLounge, and congratulations to GreenlitScripts, IOA Connect, and Charleston Naturally. Check out the book at your Barnes & Noble, or flip through a few pages and save some bucks over at Amazon.
Just wrapped up a new identity and website for Celadon – an in-the-know, vintage-modern-rustic-chic (I just made that up) home furnishings & accessories store in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, right over the bridge from downtown Charleston. They’ve been around since 1994 and have quite a following, so chances are good most of you Charlestonians are familiar (if not lounging on a Celadon purchase as we speak), but if you’re not, and the words…
As a graphic designer you really can’t ask for a better muse than Celadon – a home furnishings & accessories store just outside of Charleston, South Carolina. The place is a bubbling hodge-podge of texture and color, inspiration at every turn. So when we first began discussing the design of Celadon’s new website, we talked a lot about the experience of walking into the store and being hit with all that wonderful contrast. Metal and…
About a year ago I was approached by London-based publisher Cicada and asked to represent Charleston in their upcoming guidebook “Graphic USA.” The book is a followup to their first book, “Graphic Europe,” comprised of 31 chapters written & illustrated by 31 designers in various European cities. Each designer pens an introductory page, then a slew of personal “best of” picks – restaurants, bars, shopping, cultural events, green…
Recently wrapped up a rip-roarin’ fun project for the College of Charleston. There’s much more to it than what’s pictured above (I’ve got some of the final designed, printed & bound work in my ever-growing “photograph for site update” pile), but the entire project started with the basic idea of incorporating “inspirational buzz words” into photographs from around the college, and then using the resulting photo-illustrations as basic building blocks…
When a buddy of mine said he and a friend were resuscitating The Village Tavern and asked if I’d like to design a couple t-shirts for the cause, I immediately jumped on board. For those of you who weren’t around or don’t remember, The Village Tavern over in Mt. Pleasant (South Carolina, for all you non-local readers… hi Grandma!) was a popular live-music-focused watering hole which died an unfortunately slow death and…
